Edyta Franczak
Edyta Franczak is an artist living and working on Oahu, Hawaii. Born in Poland, she became interested in art at an early age through observing her grandfather’s passion for painting. Under his guidance, Edyta learned the basics of oil painting and created her first piece at the age of 14. She graduated from law school, but after moving to the United States and furthering her education in oil painting at the University of Hawaii, she decided to pursue a career in arts.
To Edyta, art has always been a form of escape and meditation. She grew up in a home packed with art magazine and artist biographies, and she enjoyed studying them immensely. Her first paintings were largely influenced by surrealists, but gradually she drifted towards a more realistic approach. Trained in traditional techniques of the Old Masters, Edyta focuses on working primarily with oils, often preparing her own canvas surfaces and applying multiple, thin layers of paint in the process.
Fascinated by the intimacy of the human form, she has always been drawn to figurative art. As a former athlete who practiced high jump on the Polish national team, she finds human anatomy an endless source of inspiration. She also enjoys painting local landscapes, especially ocean scenes. Besides painting, Edyta likes to spend time on the ocean surfing, or hiking in the mountains.
